Lapis Pendant Sterling Silver Navajo Necklace

Lapis Pendant Sterling Silver Navajo Necklace

This lapis pendant necklace by Navajo silversmith Wesley Begay of Cornfields, Arizona, is a striking blend of heritage and personal artistry. The necklace showcases sterling silver beads paired with a pendant hand-stamped in an old-style concho design. The deep blue lapis, long valued for its bold color, is encased in silver that carries traditional Navajo motifs.

Born in 1963 near Ganado, Arizona, Wesley grew up in a creative household—his mother Maggie was a master rug weaver, while his father Henry excelled at inlay jewelry. Though Wesley worked for many years as a facility manager, he never lost touch with the silversmithing he had learned from his father. After retiring in 2018, he devoted himself fully to jewelry-making, choosing to focus on overlay and stamped designs that honor Navajo tradition.

This necklace reflects Wesley’s respect for his roots and his decision to carry forward the skills of his family. The stamped concho design links past generations to today, while the lapis adds a modern vibrancy. With its graceful proportions and meaningful heritage, this necklace is both a wearable work of art and a testament to perseverance and renewal.

Care instructions: To clean a sterling silver necklace with stones, use a gentle approach. Warm water and a mild dish soap are usually sufficient, especially for the stones. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners that could damage the stones or the silver. For silver, a silver polishing cloth can be used, avoiding direct contact with the stones.
